The critical period for weed seed control: A proposed framework to limit weed seed return
نویسندگان
چکیده
Proliferation of herbicide-resistant weeds demands re-evaluation fundamental weed control objectives. Yield loss mitigation remains a priority, but limiting seed return (WSR) to the soil seedbank is key preventing annual from multiplying. The critical period for (CPWSC) growing season during which can minimise production. CPWSC provides framework limit WSR by targeting phenological stages development. We aim (a) introduce concept, (b) provide an example using Bassia scoparia as model species and (c) offer future research.

National Evaluation of Weed & Seed
Discussed in this Brief: The National Evaluation of Operation Weed and Seed, a strategy to control violent crime, drug trafficking, and drug-related crime in targeted areas and to provide a safe environment for residents to live, work, and raise their families. From the initial three grant sites in 1991, Weed and Seed has grown to include 200 sites nationwide. The Weed and Seed programs in eigh...
متن کاملDetermining Critical Weed Competition Periods for Black Seed
Effect of weed competition periods on weeds and yield of black seed was studied through field experiments conducted at Agronomic Research Area, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad during winter 2006-07 and 2007-08. Weeds were allowed to compete with the crop for 40, 50, 60, 70, 80 days after sowing and throughout the growth season along with a weed free treatment. The data on weed density and...
متن کاملSoftware Tools for Weed Seed Germination Modeling
The next generation of weed seed germination models will need to account for variable soil microclimate conditions. To predict this microclimate environment we have developed a suite of individual tools (models) that can be used in conjunction with the next generation of weed seed germination models. The three tools that will be outlined here are GlobalTempSIM, GlobalRainSIM, and the soil tempe...
متن کاملLiving Boundaries: Tracking Weed Seed Movement with Nondormant Seed
Synthetic seed banks are a useful tool for tracking how weed populations change over time. By sowing a known number of seeds of a given species within a quadrat with defined boundaries, an investigator can measure the number remaining and thereby calculate demographic rates (e.g., mortality). The alternative is to use in situ seeds and estimate their initial population density via sampling. To ...
